D3

D3 is a map from World War 2. It is believed to be the map used by the RAF Radar team, as they ran up Omaha Beach on D-Day, 6th June 1944. How the map was produced, and where the website team located a copy in England, is described elsewhere on this website. This Page displays the “best” image, stitched together from six A4 scans.

This is the same D3 map, Photoshopped with the "newspaper" effect, which makes the background drop out. The position marked with a small red "x" is where we believe the RAF team took shelter on the evening of D-Day.

THE MAP ELEMENTS

As well as having the map professionally scanned by the Bodleian Library staff, the editors of the website took photographs of individual elements of the map to provide greater resolution
