Stanley's Story
Mike Hurman writes > I am researching information for a fellow veteran, Gordon Poynter, from the Oxted Branch of the Royal British Legion. His uncle was Signalman Stanley Walter Peckett of 15082 GCI.
To mark D-Day80, the Oxted Legion held an Afternoon Tea with Spam sandwiches, etc. A gym bike challenge was held to race to Gold Beach, with money raised going to the RBL Poppy Appeal. And at 11am on 6th June 2024, after a wreath laying ceremony, I told those assembled of the link between Gordon and his uncle Stanley Peckett, and Stanley’s sacrifice. They were visibly moved.
Neil Mackenzie writes > I write articles for the monthly magazine of Sanderstead United Reformed Church in South Croydon. I note from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website that Stanley Peckett was one of the men from Croydon who died on D-Day; I will be writing about him.
Ron Muggleton comments > Given that Stanley was some 10 years older than the other three Signalmen who also died that day, and that all four of them were Londoners, it may be worth searching for information about the other three – in case any photographs of the Signalmen team exists.
