Good afternoon. Can you supply anymore information on Richard Croxton Parr, my wife’s’ Uncle. 1527578. We believe he was landed early on Omaha beach prior to D-Day. Does anyone know when, where and who with. We are trying to put some history together around him. We are also visiting the area in the next week to see various memorials and his grave. Thanks
Hello Chris – thanks for your enquiry. I happened to be online as your message came through, hence the reply within 15 minutes! Take a look at my father’s account of his D-Day landing, and also what I obtained from my mother after Dad’s death. Dad was Eric Heathcote, and he seems to have been one of Richard’s / Dickie’s best mates. He was dug in close to Richard when he was killed. Coincidentally, a councillor in Crewe has recently found that Richard lived in Crewe, and is working with local historians to raise his profile. I will email you a draft I have of further information about Richard, which I will be publishing soon. In return, are you in contact with the owner of a MyHeritage Family Tree which includes Richard: she is Karen Devlin? I’ve messaged her, but had no reply. If you look in the News section of the website, you will see photos of Richard’s grave, and its position in the Bayeux cemetery. Best wishes, David (Editor)
