Who cleans the RAF memorial?

WW1 and WW2 history enthusiast, Tracey Parkinson, visited Vierville-sur-Mer in March 2025, and was delighted to report that the memorial commemorating the RAF landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day is in excellent condition.

The memorial was dedicated in a ceremony on the 70th anniversary, 6 June 2014.  An account of the unveiling can be found here.

David Heathcote writes > My father was part of the RAF team that landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. He passed away in 1990, but my son and I took my mother to Normandy for the formal unveiling at Vierville in 2014. We were all struck by the exemplary behaviour of the local schoolchildren who took part in the ceremony. Every young person conducted themselves with maturity and reverence.  The question arises, “Have today’s Vierville schoolchildren been vested with the responsibility for keeping the memorial in good condition?  A bucket of soapy water and a sponge can be valid signs of respect.”
